Greetings to everybody, this is post #1 for our new site and our new life. It is Sept. 18 and we have arrived in Burgos Spain for a rest day and to meet our friends from the states for the next 10 stages.
Things have gone really well overall but there just isn’t much time to document the voyage, and the wifi is really weak in most places so it’s hard to get any real work done. I’m amazed that I can do this here.
Malinda’s knee has been an issue so we’ve been trying to protect it as much as possible, but this is just plain hard, even the “easy” days are hard, and the hard days are max efforts. I had 1 solo day of 19 miles, plus another 5 walking around town and that wasn’t even my hardest day! Then I did the same the next day, They say the first section is physical and that’s a serious understatement. The day starts at 50 degrees and ends at 90+.
We start walking in the dark and get into the next stop after 7 or more hours, then we eat, sleep, and go again the next day. This is Spain so it’s siesta time in the afternoons so everything is a ghost town when we get in. After 5, or even 8pm, every place is totally hopping, it’s pretty wild, the difference.
This is absolutely epic, every second is new with things I’ve never seen, heard or experienced. We have met many excellent people and zero maga. I am at peace, just like I dreamed of.
